阿诺尔德·J·汤因比，1889年4月14日生于伦敦，卒于1975年10月22日。英国历史学家。牛津大学毕业，曾任该校研究员（1912-1915）。第一次世界大战时期曾在英国外交部情报部工作（1915）；战后作为英国代表团的成员出席过巴黎和会（1919）。二十世纪二十年代先后担任过伦敦大学教授（1924）、皇家国际问题研究所部长（1925）、伦敦大学国际关系史教授。二次大战时期曾任英国外交部调查部长（1943-1946）。1921年他计划巨著《历史研究》，1927-1928年着手写作。 1934-1961年出版了12卷，评述世界历史。注重无文字记载的文明和欧洲以外地区文明。提出一种以分析各种文明的循环和衰落为基础的历史哲学。因其他事务(1939-1943年任皇家国际事务学会外事部研究室主任、1943-1946年任外交部研究司司长等)而中断巨著的继续写作...(展开全部)
